Building Diverse Boards

CLS will support legislation, policies, and initiatives that increase diversity and inclusion in workplaces, especially, the policies aiming to close the gap at the board level.

California Life Sciences, on behalf of our members, will:

  • Work with recruitment firms and other partners to compile a list of candidates from BIPOC populations, including candidates from other industries that have requisite functional expertise for board membership
  • Through the Racial and Social Equity Initiative, negotiate and fund 10 spots in a Board of Directors immersion program for individuals from POC populations to prepare them for board candidacy
  • Increase BIPOC populations on member company boards by providing networks and resources to fill open slates with diverse candidates

Annual Metrics

  • Track how member companies are meeting the requirements of SB826 and AB979
  • Identify at least 10 candidates to take the Racial and Social Equity Initiative negotiated spots and promote those candidates to member companies
  • Report on the progress of those candidates in securing board seats
