California Life Sciences Announces Strategic Reorganization to Better Serve Membership, Enhance Member Experience

San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Calif. – California Life Sciences (CLS), the state’s most influential and impactful life sciences membership organization, today announced a series of organizational enhancements designed to strengthen the association’s alignment to the evolving priorities of its membership. For the new structure, CLS added strategic senior talent, reorganized business units to collaborate across shared mission themes, and established a new horizontal function that integrates racial and social equity and human resources, with a focus on diversity, talent, and culture.

“This evolution of talent deployment strengthens CLS’ ability to advise and execute on the growing needs of our membership. These changes will improve our operational efficiencies, bolster our federal and state advocacy efforts, and help us better focus on the advancement of critical programs to support emerging innovation, workforce development, and diversity and inclusion,” stated Mike Guerra, President and CEO of CLS. ”We’re thrilled that these talented leaders will chart our course for the coming years for our member companies, our community partners and the broader ecosystem in which we serve.”

CLS’ business units provide synergies across our robust membership and enables CLS to advocate for the industry and its diverse innovation pipeline. The new organizational enhancements are as follows:

  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Human Resources – Led by Marc Fields, Senior Vice President, Racial and Social Equity & Culture. In his new role, Marc will oversee the success of CLS’s Racial & Social Equity Initiative through strategic partnerships, funding initiatives, program management and amplification. Marc will also ensure our diversity principles and overarching values are represented in our organizational culture and reinforce CLS as an “employer of choice”. Marc brings more than 20+ years of business HR and DE&I strategy to CLS. Most recently, Marc was VP, Diversity Equity & Inclusion and Corporate HR at Vail Resorts.  Prior to that Marc held HR leadership roles at Amgen and Thermo-Fisher.
  • Membership and Business Development – Led by Kim Brocchini, Senior Vice President, Membership & Business Development. Kim joins CLS after 18 years with VWR/Avantor, leading their Bay Area sales team, and will bring her experience and extensive network to help us identify, evaluate and manage strategic business opportunities. She will be responsible for serving the needs of CLS membership, ensuring continued growth through proactive and innovative onboarding, retention, and member engagement. Kim will develop the association’s business development roadmap, including defining annual growth goals, recurring yearly revenue goals, and business development success measures. In this capacity, she will also oversee CLS’s cost savings program, CLSAdvantage.
  • Industry Engagement and Marketing – Led by Stacey Bowlin, Senior Vice President of Industry Engagement and Marketing. Since joining CLS in 2021, Stacey has built a marketing function that includes the organization’s communications and profile building efforts, CLS’s events portfolio, sponsorship and other non-dues revenue initiatives, and systems and data. In her elevated role, Stacey will oversee CLS’ entrepreneurship programs, with an emphasis on expanding opportunities for startup companies, including CLS’s acclaimed FAST advisory program, and new initiatives that support the innovation pipeline.
  • Government Relations: CLS is elevating the Vice President, Federal Government Relations position to Senior Vice President, Government Relations and Public Affairs.  This expanded role will now have responsibility for the overall strategic impact of our Federal, State and Local teams and ensure we leverage our full suite of government relations resources.  CLS is currently accepting applications for this new position.
