In this program\, we will go through San Diego by the numbers. \nWhile 2023 was the year of VC portfolio management and insider rounds\, 2024 saw new early-stage investment dollars trend up significantly while at the same time\, the number of deals declined. The emergence of the “mega” $50M+ Seed/Series A deal pointed to VCs minimizing financing risk and sacrificing ownership for multiple syndicate partners that provided safety in numbers. IPOs were mixed but private biopharma M&A was very strong.
