Dr. Anja Preissmann is the President and Site Head of Boehringer Ingelheim Fremont Inc., where she leads the company’s U.S. Biopharma Operations, overseeing the development and manufacturing of biopharmaceutical medicines. She has been with Boehringer Ingelheim for more than 3 decades, holding leadership positions across Operations, Development, Manufacturing, and Global Supply.
Before relocating to California, Dr. Preissmann served as Head of Human Pharma Launch & Innovation in Ingelheim, Germany, where she led a global organization of 1,350 employees focused on accelerating the development and introduction of innovative medical therapies to commercial markets. Prior to this role, she was Head of Human Pharma Supply Germany, responsible for ensuring a reliable worldwide product supply for commercialized medicines through leadership of multiple sites of manufacturing and packaging operations. She also served on the Boehringer Ingelheim Executive Committee Germany.
Her earlier roles at Boehringer Ingelheim span a broad range of operational and technical leadership positions in both, Operations and Development, including oversight of Human Pharma manufacturing facilities, global launch activities, operations strategy, process development, aseptic fill and finish, packaging, and the development of inhalation dosage forms. She previously led the Focus Factory Respimat Ingelheim and Focus Factory Solids, directed Process Development and Investigational Supplies, and held multiple positions in Respiratory Drug Delivery and Pharma Production.
Dr. Preissmann began her professional journey as a research assistant in Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing in Biberach, Germany. From 1997 to 2002, she completed an expatriate assignment in the United States at Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica Inc., where she worked as a process engineer and later Manager of Vaccine Production, contributing to the setup and commissioning of a vaccine manufacturing facility. Her academic research experience also includes roles as a research scientist at the Technical University of Berlin and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
She holds both a Diploma in Biotechnology Engineering and a Doctorate in Engineering (Ph.D.) from the Technical University of Berlin, graduating with honors. A native of Germany,
Dr. Preissmann now resides in Menlo Park, California, with her husband, Dieter, and is a proud “bonus mum and grandma” to their two adult children and grandchild. She speaks German natively, is fluent in English, and has a basic proficiency in Spanish.
