Mike Burgess serves as SVP and Head of the Cell Therapy Thematic Research Center at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS), overseeing discovery and translational research for the company’s cell therapy pipeline. He concurrently leads Translational Medicine & Clinical Pharmacology at BMS, directing the strategy and execution of end-to-end clinical and quantitative pharmacology and the translational and precision medicine strategy for late-stage clinical development across oncology, hematology, immunology, cardiovascular, and neuroscience therapeutic areas. Mike is a board observer for Arsenal Biosciences and Orna Therapeutics. He brings extensive experience from his previous roles at BMS and Celgene Corporation in Early Clinical Development where he advanced numerous clinical-stage programs and strategic partnerships.
Mike joined the industry from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) where he remains on volunteer faculty as Assistant Professor caring for patients with hematologic malignancies. Mike completed his undergraduate degree at UC, Berkeley, earned his MD and PhD in molecular biology at UCLA and completed postgraduate training in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology at UCSF. Mike lives in San Francisco, CA, with his wife and two children and is based at the Brisbane BMS site.
