Bolstering the Workforce Pipeline: Early Career Awareness in the Life Sciences

April 24 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Virtual Event

The Life Sciences Workforce Collaborative (LSWC) is hosting its second Best Workforce Strategies Roundtable on April 24, convening industry association and workforce leaders focused on early career awareness in the life sciences.

The session will feature Ying-Tsu Loh, Executive Director of BABEC, who will discuss how the organization equips high school teachers to bring biotechnology into classrooms; Angie McMurry, Director of Industry Engagement at Ohio Life Sciences, presenting BioPathways, a comprehensive education initiative that brings industry and academia together to help teachers inspire and prepare K-12 students for rewarding careers in life sciences; Shelly Ridder, Community Engagement Manager at Oregon Life Sciences, highlighting career exploration tools from STEM Engineering, Radlabs and Biotech-Careers.org; and Ann Vogel, SVP of Charitable Programs at iBIO Institute, presenting STEMgirls Camp—a 5-day STEM summer program for 3rd–8th grade girls.

As the U.S. life sciences sector grows, most students have little or no exposure to biotechnology until college. This Roundtable will spotlight scalable solutions to close that gap and ensure a skilled, future-ready workforce.
