Sacramento, CA – In partnership with California Life Sciences, Senator Catherine Blakespear (D-Oceanside), introduced SCR 111, declaring August as “Life Sciences Month” for the state of California. SCR 111 recognizes and highlights the tireless work of scientists and researchers in the life sciences that have delivered life-changing and life-saving medical innovation, treatments, and cures to patients in California and around the world.

“There is nothing like California’s life sciences ecosystem and R&D hub in the world.” said Mike Guerra, President and CEO of California Life Sciences. “This month in particular, we want to recognize the incredible innovation that our life sciences institutions produce for millions of patients seeking treatments for their illness or disease.”

“I am delighted to author a Senate Resolution designating August as California Life Sciences Month,” said Sen. Catherine Blakespear, representing San Diego and Orange Counties. “The life sciences are profoundly important to the state’s economy as its second-largest industry. California has led the way supporting the life sciences ecosystem to develop new technologies and innovations that have improved the quality of life for people across the world. It’s important for Californians to know about, and appreciate, this valuable and thriving part of the state’s economy.”

SCR 111 is awaiting a vote in the California State Senate, which will likely occur next week. Once passed, SCR 111 will go into effect immediately, and the state will declare August 2024 as “Life Sciences Month”.
